Unfortunately, I've carried some neck/back pain over from 2008 into 2009, but this Saturday's chiropractor appointment should straighten that out (pun intended).
My Dad was a little less fortunate. Yesterday, while getting a check up on his retinal detachment surgery from a couple of months back, they discovered, and immediately operated, on a newly discovered retinal detachment... on his other eye. So he went into 2009 painfully recovering from surgery, with little visibility (his right eye is much more near sighted from the last surgery, and his left eye has a gas bubble in it, which distorts the vision).
He's recovering well, and I think his two immediate worries are:
- He'll have a hard time reading piano music while he recovers.
- He'll potentially have to miss more work (his previous surgery was the first time he missed work in about 15 years)
I'm amending my last post, and my primary resolution now is to help my Dad as best I can until I leave for Savannah in March. This will mostly involve helping him be patient and optimistic while he recovers.
I think 2009 will be a wonderful year, albeit a challenging one. It's going to require work, collaboration, and compassion, but it will pay off in the end.
